In the gallery of early European art, which includes Yale’s fine collection of early Italian paintings and later works up to the time of Edouard Manet, the walls are dense with pictures. Curator John Marciari says the density is necessary to fit 600 years of painting into a tight space, a problem that will be alleviated as the gallery expands into Street Hall over the next four years. |
