One of the most striking elements of the reinstalled
gallery is the new space for African art on the west side of the second floor. Yale’s African holdings more than doubled in 2004 with a bequest
from the collector Charles Benenson '33. (See September/October 2004.) The new,
larger exhibit space, in which the art is arranged by geographic region, allows
visitors to walk around the sculptures and see them from all directions.
