Quonset Huts, 1940s
An architectural innovation of World War II, the Quonset hut was cheap and could be erected quicklywhich made it a natural when Yale had to house returning veterans and their families. Colonies of the corrugated metal buildings stood for years at the foot of Science Hill and at the athletic fields near the Bowl.
