Icaronycteris index, the oldest known bat. This 50 million-year-old early Eocene fossil, found in 1935 in southwestern Wyoming, is an unusually complete specimen, showing the imprint of the wing membranes. It is six inches long, about the size of a modern-day little brown bat.
