The Peabody Museum of Natural History was among the West Campus’s first tenants. It has moved much of its collections here from basements on the central campus, including the zoology specimens shown here. The rhinoceros was donated to Yale by the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus. The elephant skin in a wooden crate in the foreground is said to have been shot while escaping from a circus parade in Hamden.
