Evolutionary biologist Nancy Moran came to the West Campus from the University of Arizona to help found the Microbial Diversity Institute. The university built her a greenhouse to cultivate the plants that feed pea aphids, which she uses in her research: she studies tiny single-celled bacteria that live in the aphids.
