A year-long renovation of Harkness Tower doesn’t have to mean a year without bells. In November, this carillon on wheels was delivered to a parking lot near Yale’s Peabody Museum, to provide the Guild of Carillonneurs with a place to play until the Harkness carillon is again accessible—probably in time for Commencement. For a group of musicians used to being heard and not seen, the arrangement takes some getting used to. “It’s like we’re in a zoo,” says guild co-chair Andrew Lai ’10 of the stares from passersby. “But it’s nice to be appreciated.”
