Party Platform

For Julian Malinak ’10, moving-in day had its trials, including stacks of books that wouldn’t stay stacked. But Malinak was excited to be installing himself in the Cottage, a houselike suite that is one of Davenport College’s choicest addresses.

The Cottage serves as Davenport’s social center, a function considered so important that its occupants are selected by student vote. Malinak, a humanities major from Montana, and six other seniors beat out a rival group last spring in a hard-fought contest. (“It got pretty nasty,” he says.) His team ran on a populist platform, pledging to make their home “The People’s Cottage” and host not just big parties, “but other nice events for the community.” It remains to be seen how much reading he’ll get done. the end
